The editors at Nouvella may have engineered the most clever Kickstarter campaign we've seen yet: a satirical reverse-Kickstarter where backers buy out their entire stock for the purpose of destroying it, to "[ensure] that long, arduous novels written by the great men of our time once again dominate the literary landscape." Like they say, it's not called the Great American Novella.
Besides copies from Nouvella's catalogue, the backer rewards include a number of tools and paraphernalia with which to trash pocket-sized literature and show your loyalty to long-winded fiction, including: matches, pamphlets on proper methods of locating and destroying novellas, "I Only Read Long and Arduous Novels" stickers, and an "I Belong in a Big Book" bookmark, among others.
Some of Nouvella's authors include Edan Lepucki, author of the novella If You're Not Yet Like Me (not fit for reprinting) and the novel California; Daniel Torday, author of the novella The Sensualist (soon to be immolated en masse) and the novel The Last Flight of Poxl West; and Emma Straub, author of the the novella Fly-Over State (awaiting swift destruction), as well as the novels The Vacationers and Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures, and the short story collection Other People We Married .
The campaign ends September 2nd. We implore you to go help smother an independent publisher and their silly attempts at good literature.
