Write_On! And On and On and On

The Write_On campaign offers an inspiring activity for anyone, but particularly for writers. April is National Letter-writing Month, and the Write_On campaign challenges participants to write thirty letters in thirty days.

Letters are able to connect people in a thoughtful, significant, and tangible way that is all too frequently lost in a world of emails, likes, and tweets. Writing and receiving letters fosters creativity, friendship, and delight in a way that has no parallel in the digital realm, plus it is an activity that people of any age can enjoy.

Created by Egg Press founder Tess Darrow in April 2014, Write_On began by partnering with fellow card company Hello!Lucky to create 2,000 free kits of four note cards to foster letter-writing momentum. In 2015, they created 5,000 kits and every kit was claimed before April even began. This year, the goal is to distribute a whopping 10,000 kits. In order to meet this goal, Write_On has launched an indiegogo campaign that runs until the end of February.

A 10 dollar donation will nab you six limited edition letterpress cards designed by Egg Press and Hello!Lucky, a printed version of the Write_On zine, a downloadable & printable Write_On sticker sheet, a sheet of Strathmore writing paper and matching envelope, and a Sakura Of America Gelly Roll pen. The more you donate, the more writer-oriented swag will come your way.

Whether you choose to donate or not, the Write_On challenge is a fantastic way to engage in the written word and break through writers block. As Jane Austen wrote in Pride and Prejudice, “A person who can write a long letter, with ease, cannot write ill.” Plus, with all those cards on sale after Valentine's Day, it’s a good time to stock up for April.

Many independent shops across the U.S. will be joining in the campaign, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the Write_On poster in the window of your local bookshop or stationery store. Mohawk Paper and Chronicle Books came on as sponsors this year and the list of fellow participants is a card lovers dream, so be sure to check the Write_On website for events and giveaways as April draws near.
