Curbside Splendor celebrates Independent Bookstore Day!

What better way to usher in spring than with a good book? Saturday, April 30 is Independent Bookstore Day, and Curbside Splendor is hosting a couple events around the city, fortunately all featuring plenty of good books and free booze!

The Tacky Goblin Release Party
City Lit Books, 5 pm

T. Sean Steele's Tacky Goblin won our first annual Wild Onion Novella Contest. Stuart Dybek called it "a wonderful debut by a talented, comic writer." We couldn't agree more! We'll have plenty of wine, and additional readings from James Tadd Adcox, Halle Butler, and Sarah Carson. After party at Rocking Horse, just down the street from the bookstore!

In Tacky Goblin, an aimless twenty-something struggles to make sense of reality after he moves to Los Angeles to live with his older sister. His legs are rotting, his apartment is haunted, and he’s in charge of taking care of a human baby that might actually be a dog. On top of it all, he has trouble making friends. Tacky Goblin blunders through particularly strange but familiar misadventures to remind us that, ultimately, learning to take care of yourself is hard.

Visiting Women Writers at Unabridged
Unabridged Bookstore, 7 pm

Curbside Splendor presents a flash reading from only women writers: Mira Gonzalez, Juliet Escoria, Amanda Goldblatt, Elizabeth Ellen, Chloe Caldwell, and Chelsea Martin. We're publishing Chelsea's newest novella, MickeyJuly 2016, and we're celebrating with a reading perfect for Indie Bookstore Day with growlers of DryHop beer!

After breaking up with her boyfriend Mickey, a young woman struggles to situate her life and her art, and reach her estranged mother. Told in a series of vignettes, Mickey is one young woman’s journey to figuring out life (or not) amidst drunken mistakes, reality TV marathons, bathroom sex, and the daydreamed titles of imaginary art installations.
